Library booked for a series of improvements

03 July 2009
Stratford Library is about to undergo a series of improvements to make it more accessible to the wider community.

The improvements, which are being carried out under the Disability Discrimination Act, will see electrical and PA systems upgraded, as well as the installation of a visual alarm system for people with hearing impairment.

Newham's member for Equality and Social inclusion, Cllr Neil Wilson, said the improvements will make the Library more accessible.

He said: "Newham is the most diverse borough in London and we're determined to make our facilities accessible to all.

"By investing in these improvements, we're ensuring that the wonderful resources our library has on offer can be enjoyed by all."

The works are scheduled to take approximately one month, but disruption to services is being kept to a minimum.

At present, it's planned for the library to be closed on the following dates:

* Sunday July 5 & Monday July 6

* Sunday July 12 & Monday July 13

* Sunday July 19 & Monday July 20

* Sunday July 26 & Monday July 27

The Library will be open from 8am to 8pm every Tuesday during this period to make-up for the scheduled closures.
