EXCLUSIVE: Pioneering surgery is fascinating for Ada!

07 March 2007
EXCLUSIVE by SUSAN SMITH, Chief Reporter

A PIONEERING form of surgery is transforming the lives of patients in Newham.

It makes operations much quicker than standard procedures and less painful. Patient recovery time is also faster.

Patient Ada Winters of Blaney Crescent, East Ham, praised surgeon Nick Marshall for the treatment she received and her quick and painless recovery.

She underwent a gall bladder operation and was treated by a technique using a harmonic scalpel. It is thought Newham is the only place in the UK where the treatment is available.

The technique is being used at The Gateway Surgical Centre in Plaistow, run by the bosses of neighbouring Newham General Hospital.

For the full story and interview with Ada about how it has changed her life, see this week's Newham Recorder.
